Since its founding in 1892, B. F. Saul Company has been active in land development and construction. Large-scale projects require disciplined managerial, financial, construction and leasing skills over an extended period of time. The task is made even more complex by the many suppliers and subcontractors who must be coordinated to complete development on schedule and on budget. We have met the challenge in an impressive array of office-industrial, hotel and residential projects over the years.
To support the teams in each of our operating divisions, we have a talented group of business professionals in each vital support function: Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Accounting. The B. F. Saul Company also has an Insurance Agency that represents many of the nation’s leading insurance carriers.
Property Management
The Property Management Division oversees the management of the Company’s office buildings and corporate parks. Guided by the Division’s annual business plan, the professionals in this department provide the expertise to maximize the revenues and minimize the costs at each of these assets. The team is tasked with identifying strategies for maintaining tenancy and increasing marketability of the facilities. The ultimate goal of the Property Management Division is to ensure the long term appreciation of the properties under their leadership.
While the majority of the office buildings and corporate parks are in the metropolitan Washington , D.C. area, the Company also has a large mixed use development in Atlanta. (back to top)
Residential
The Residential Division was originally formed to provide professional management services to apartment communities owned and developed by the B. F. Saul Company and its affiliates. Over the years these services expanded to include third party management, asset management, market assessment and due-diligence in diverse markets in the greater Washington DC area.
The division oversees the management, marketing and development of properties in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Georgia, and has provided management and asset management for properties in Kansas, Tennessee, Texas, Florida and Louisiana. The division just recently completed the development and leasing of the award winning Kennedy-Warren Apartments in Washington, D.C. (back to top)
Hotel Division
The Hotel Division specializes in operating business class hotels in airport, urban and suburban markets. The distribution of hotels spans four states with specific emphasis on the National Capital region. The portfolio includes full service hotels with extensive food and beverage facilities, select service and extended stay hotels. In addition, the division owns and operates two conference centers that serve as adjunct facilities to local full service hotels. Office & Industrial Leasing
The Office & Industrial Leasing Division markets and leases over three million square feet of office and flex projects owned and managed by B. F. Saul Company and its affiliates. Having a diversified portfolio of office and flex properties ranging from one-story corporate parks to 15-story, Class A office buildings allows the company to serve a much broader market. While the majority of the properties are located in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, the Office & Industrial Leasing Division also markets and leases space in Atlanta, Georgia. B. F. Saul Insurance
B. F. Saul Insurance Agency of Maryland, a subsidiary of B. F. Saul Company, has been a full-service property and casualty insurance broker since 1897. Licensed in over 25 states, the agency represents many of the nation's leading insurance carriers, as well as Lloyd's of London, through the agency's headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.
The agency provides complete brokerage services, with special emphasis in the area of financial institution, trade associates, commercial real estate, professional liability and errors and omissions liability as well as personal insurance lines. (back to top)
Information Technology (IT) Group
The Information Technology (IT) Group maintains the computer systems and software at the headquarters location and at each of the company’s property locations. The IT Group provides connectivity solutions for our properties and for staff working offsite so that data and information can be shared among all members of our company quickly and securely. Additionally, the IT Group is instrumental in creating and implementing internet access solutions for our hotel guests.
The IT Group has developed a number of customized software solutions for the company’s business groups and has a team dedicated to continuing to develop customized solutions for our business units. (back to top)
Accounting
The Accounting Group provides accounting, tax and internal audit support for each of the company’s operating divisions.
Each operating division has a dedicated team of project accountants and controllers who account for the income and expenses of that division. These dedicated professionals are involved with all aspects of the business lifecycle and are often on the “front line” in working with our tenants and hotel guests.
The Accounting Group also provides company-wide Construction and Development accounting support. From predevelopment to building completion to ongoing capital improvement programs, this group keeps track of project costs, updates budgets, processes payments to vendors and provides critical management reports on the projects.
The Accounting Group is responsible for company-wide reporting and tax accounting. The entity-level reporting and tax work generated by this group is reviewed frequently by Senior Management of the company, and as a result, this group has high visibility throughout the organization.
Finally, but equally important, the Accounting Group provides critical internal audit functions for each operating division as well as for the company as a whole. The internal audit staff works closely with each operating division to develop and enforce policies and procedures to maintain compliance with all federal, state and local guidelines. (back to top)
Legal
Focusing mainly on the leasing of retail and office properties owned by the B. F. Saul Company, the Legal Department supports the leasing agents in their negotiations, drafts necessary documents and ensures that the company’s interests are protected during the negotiation and administration of all leases. The department also reviews contracts and agreements for all divisions of the company, including software licensing agreements, construction and development documents, equipment leases and service contracts.

Human Resources
Recognizing that our employees are our greatest asset, the Human Resources department plays a vital role in fostering a workplace culture that is committed to recruiting and retaining a highly talented and effective team. Primary responsibilities of the Human Resources department include recruitment and retention, training and professional development, performance management, employee recognition programs, compensation and benefit administration and oversight of the company’s Human Resources policies and procedures.
The Payroll department is considered a part of the Human Resources team, with virtually all payroll duties for the company and its affiliated properties being completed at the corporate headquarters. (back to top)

The Construction Department is a support vehicle for the B. F. Saul Company. The department works with each division in a support capacity to expertly facilitate the development and growth plans of the company. The types of support include:
